Advantages of Autoinjectors
Today, a range of various injection devices are available to make self-injection of Betaferon® as easy as possible.
Long-term experience in providing these medications and working together with people with MS have allowed for the development of these autoinjector devices.
They have been specially designed to help you to overcome any fear of self-injection right from the start of your therapy.
Overcoming needle-phobia
Automated injection devices keep the syringe and needle hidden from view. One simply places the syringe inside the autoinjector, then places the autoinjector on the injection site and presses a release button. The needle and the drug are then automatically injected at the right depht.
Injection site rotation
The autoinjector also can help with proper injection site rotation. This is important because you are encouraged to alternate a number of injection spots so as to reduce the chance of getting “injection site reactions”. Using an autoinjector can help to give injections in those spots that are hard to reach when using the “traditional” manual injection method. These novel devices provide optimum flexibility.
Reducing injection site reactions
Since you inject a medication which needs to be effective to modulate the immune system, you may also experience local immune reactions at the injection sites. Most common are red spots which at times may be a bit painful and some swelling might occur. Much less often reactions may be more severe, with breaking of the skin and infections. A hygenic injection technique, constant change of the injection sites and last but not least the use of the autoinjector may minimise the risks.
One of the benefits of using an autoinjector is that it can help to reduce the chances of developing such “injection site reactions”.

Making injecting easier for Betaferon® users
Bayer Schering Pharma has developed a range of customised autoinjectors especially designed for use with Betaferon®.
These are known as the Betaject comfort® and Betaject Light® and are available freely for most Betaferon® users. They are simple to use with a small number of handling steps and ensure that the needle goes into the skin at the correct depht. There is an audible signal at the Betaject comfort® and an optical sign at Betaject Light® to alert the user when the injection process is over.
